How to Follow the OMAD Method

The OMAD diet is relatively simple. Unlike diets, there aren't any strict rules that you must follow. But just like the other IF methods, OMAD comes with a few guidelines and suggestions that can help make your journey simpler and easier. For instance, it's best to choose a time for when you will have your meal of the day—try to stick with this time consistently. For instance, you can skip breakfast and dinner, and have a big meal at lunch. Personally, I skip breakfast and lunch, then have a big, satisfying dinner. This is the best time for me because I'm not busy, and I get to enjoy my meal without having to rush through it. Of course, the timing would be entirely up to you. Now, here are a few more tips to help you follow this extreme IF method:

1. Ease into the diet

Since this method is quite extreme, it's not recommended to jump right into it right away. For instance, after reading this book, you decide to start following OMAD tomorrow—without a plan and without prior experience. Instead, you may want to think of how you will approach this eating pattern first. Come up with a plan of your own for how to start following OMAD. Give yourself time to adjust to make things much easier for you.

2. Learn how to listen to your body

Learning how to listen to your body is vital if you want to succeed on OMAD or on any other method of IF, for that matter. Even if you eat the healthiest meal each day, there are some bodies that don't do well with fasting for 23 hours each day. If you have such a body, then OMAD might not be the best choice for you. For instance, if you feel stressed all the time, your sleeping patterns are disturbed or you are constantly tired even after you have been following the method for a few months, then you may need to rethink your diet choices. You can modify your IF method based on how it makes your body feel, but you can only do this by learning how to listen to your body and all of its cues.

3. If you are a woman, be more careful

While everyone should practice caution when it comes to OMAD, women should be particularly careful. There have been cases where women experienced suppression of their reproductive hormones because of this extreme method. If you're a woman and you have noticed changes in your monthly cycle after following this eating pattern, have yourself checked. In fact, you may want to have yourself checked first before starting the OMAD method in the first place, especially if you also suffer from any medical condition.

4. Try to watch what you eat

Just because OMAD (and IF in general) focuses more on your timing and not the food that you eat, this doesn't mean that you should eat anything and everything that you want. For instance, having a single
